People don't respond to the stick. I wouldn't like to work for your company, the fear of being voted off your island would make me a bad worker. I care very little about performance reviews, even when they affect the amount a company is willing to pay me. As long as I am adequately compensated I don't care about yearly raises or extra praise.

I think it's much more likely for you to not have enough opinions rather than having too many. So while it is good to have arbitration may be useful I think it's more important to focus on how to get those good ideas out. I agree with the idea of democratic leadership... somewhat. I would suggest rather that the things to do come in and someone steps in with a team to do it. That will allow you to organically grow your teams and they'll work well together. Those that can't find jobs to do or teams to work with might not be a good fit for your company.

Katie did pass your story to me. I especially liked how you chose to create the story. Starting off with the seed paragraph, and writing alternating lines above and below worked very well. I once wrote a story simultaneously with a friend of mine using PiratePad. At the end of our writing, a read of the story revealed we a third voice, that differed greatly from either of our writing styles.

In my stories, I find that a switch to the third or first person can help when I am having difficulty conceiving my stories. Sometimes this is due to the emotional content of the themes I am meditating on. Distancing or bringing myself closer through an alteration of the narrative style expedites the story and my sense of discovery.

I've been turned on to your blog by my daughter Katie Bosserman. We wrote a story in an interesting manner, that was somewhat like yours. Perhaps she told you about it. Your meditation method brings to mind a method of dream interpretation I learned in gestalt therapy 40 years ago. Rather than try to "interpret" the dream, just tell it (or write it) in the present tense, taking on the "personality" one of the characters or items (like a train or a highway or a tree or a dormitory or any other aspect) of the dream, and relating whatever you can remember of the dream.
It's important to keep everything in the present tense, and to maintain the character of whatever aspect you've selected. You can find out some interesting things about your psyche, or at least come up with an interesting story, as you have done in the selections presented in this blog. I'm enjoying them, as Katie predicted.

Thanks for this article and the great supportive response it has had.
I am in day 10 of waiting for my account to be deleted. They hold it in deactivation mode for 14 days in case you change your mind. To give myself no point to log back in...therefore reactivating...I deleted all 'friends'

I am a long time supporter of internet chat and I have returned to a chat site where I paid to be a lifetime member 15 years ago! No adverts and a real person behind the scenes to contact, and people from other countries who I've known online all of this time. These are my real internet friends.

For me, Facebook represents all that is bad about online networking. It is full of internet and chat newbies who are being led down a path designed by others and they haven't got a clue what it really means.

I have many examples of things that I've seen on Facebook that led to my decision. One that sticks in my mind was the bass player in our band stopping in between songs at rehearsal to update their Facebook by phone! They were so distracted by it that they weren't playing properly. They got the sack. Another is having my photo taken by someone's mobile phone and having the picures published and tagged without my permission. I'm not against having information about me on the web but it needs to be information of my own choosing. The list goes on!

cheers all

Since I am not a lawyer, I wouldn't know how strong a claim their EULA gives them toward external intellectual property. I assume that what they are doing with a sentence like that is casting a wide net. And then they can see how much they can get away with based on who sues them for using their material.

Part of why I canceled my Facebook account is because of issues like the one you are pointing out. I simply don't trust the company to act well on my behalf.
